Confirm the terminal and wire combination

Start with the terminal drawing, conductor size, insulation diameter, material, plating and compatible housing. A crimp cannot be approved independently from the specified wire and terminal combination.

Review conductor and insulation crimps

The conductor wings should form the intended mechanical and electrical connection without damaging strands. The insulation support should stabilize the wire without cutting through the insulation.

Check dimensions and appearance

Use the applicable terminal drawing and project control plan to check crimp height, width, bellmouth, brush length, wing symmetry and visible damage. Acceptance limits must come from controlled specifications.

Verify retention and housing insertion

After crimping, confirm terminal pull performance according to the approved requirement, correct cavity insertion, primary retention and secondary-lock operation.

Record sample approval

Keep the terminal lot, wire specification, tooling reference, measured results, photos and approved samples together so future production checks use the same basis.

FAQ

Common questions

Common procurement and engineering questions related to this topic.

Is a visual crimp inspection enough for approval?

No. Visual review is useful, but controlled dimensional and mechanical checks should follow the terminal and project requirements.

Why must the wire specification be recorded?

Conductor size and insulation dimensions affect crimp geometry, seal fit and repeatability, so the approved wire is part of the validated combination.
