Can a wire-to-wire connector mate directly with a PCB?
Only when that connector family includes a compatible PCB header. The header drawing and orientation should be verified.
What is needed for a wire-to-board connector RFQ?
Provide the module or PCB header drawing, mating connector, orientation, pin map, electrical requirement and installation space.
Are CPA and TPA the same connector part?
No. CPA relates to connector mating assurance, while TPA relates to terminal seating and retention inside the housing.
Should the secondary lock be closed before terminal insertion?
Assembly order depends on the connector design, but the lock generally must allow full terminal insertion before it reaches its final position. Follow the product drawing or assembly instruction.
Can one wire seal size fit every cable in the same terminal series?
No. The seal must match the wire insulation outer diameter and the connector cavity design.
Are cavity plugs required when a sealed connector has unused positions?
Usually yes, but the exact requirement should be confirmed from the connector drawing and intended sealing method.
Is a visual crimp inspection enough for approval?
No. Visual review is useful, but controlled dimensional and mechanical checks should follow the terminal and project requirements.
Why must the wire specification be recorded?
Conductor size and insulation dimensions affect crimp geometry, seal fit and repeatability, so the approved wire is part of the validated combination.
Can one high-voltage connector be used on both 400V and 800V platforms?
Only when its controlled specifications and the full application review support both projects. Nominal platform names alone are not enough.
What changes when moving from 400V to 800V?
Voltage-related insulation and safety requirements may change, while current, cable, thermal, shielding and packaging requirements still need a separate review.
Is successful mating enough to approve a connector sample?
No. Identity, terminals, seals, dimensions, electrical requirements, environment and production assembly must also be reviewed.
Why should an approved sample be linked to a revision?
It prevents later shipments or drawings from being accepted against an outdated or unidentified configuration.
Which connector drawing view is most important for cross-reference?
The mating interface is critical, but keying, latch, terminal, seal, overall dimensions and revision information must also be compared.
Can missing drawing values be inferred from a product photo?
No. Photos can support identification, but controlled dimensions and specifications should be verified from drawings, samples or supplier documentation.
Does hybrid mean every cavity can carry power or data?
No. Each cavity or module has a defined terminal and electrical function. The approved configuration and pin map must be followed.
What is the main sourcing risk with hybrid connectors?
A similar outer housing can contain a different insert, keying or circuit allocation, so the exact configuration must be documented.
What should be checked first for an intermittent connector fault?
Preserve the condition, record when the fault occurs, then inspect terminal seating, crimp, locks, strain and mating evidence against an approved reference.
Does water inside a connector always enter through the mating face?
No. Water may enter through damaged wire seals, missing cavity plugs, cable mismatch, housing damage or the connector interface.
Is one standard test list suitable for every automotive connector?
No. Tests, severity, sequence and acceptance criteria depend on the application, vehicle location, electrical load, interface and customer specification.
Should the connector be tested without the wire and seal?
Component tests can be useful, but assembly validation should use the approved terminal, wire, seal, mating part and process because they affect real performance.
Is gold plating always better than tin plating?
No. Suitability depends on the contact system, circuit, environment, mating compatibility and validated specification. A more expensive finish is not automatically the correct choice.
Can terminals with different plating be mated?
Only when the contact pairing is approved by the responsible engineering specification and supported by compatibility and validation evidence.
Why can the same terminal have different current ratings?
Published values may use different wire, ambient temperature, loaded circuits, temperature-rise limits and test setups. Compare the conditions, not only the number.
Does a larger wire always solve connector heating?
No. Cable size helps conductor heating, but contact resistance, crimp quality, terminal seating, loaded cavities and enclosure temperature must also be controlled.
Is a locked connector automatically vibration-resistant?
No. Terminal retention, mounting, harness strain, contact system and the validated vibration condition all affect performance.
Why should the harness be included in vibration testing?
Harness mass, routing, clips and cable exit can transfer force to the connector, so the mounted assembly can behave differently from a connector tested alone.
Does IP67 prove resistance to automotive fluids?
No. IP67 addresses dust and water ingress under defined conditions. Chemical compatibility with specific fluids requires a separate material and exposure review.
Which connector parts should be checked for chemical resistance?
Review the housing, interface and wire seals, cavity plugs, cable jacket, markings and terminal system in the complete approved assembly.
Can straight and right-angle headers use the same PCB footprint?
Do not assume so. Footprint, mounting, keep-out area, pin geometry and enclosure clearance must be confirmed from controlled drawings.
What is the main routing check for a PCB connector?
Confirm harness exit, bend radius, latch access, mating direction and enclosure clearance in the installed module condition.
Is there one universal PPAP checklist for every connector customer?
No. Use the customer's current submission level, templates, evidence requirements and approval process for the specific project.
Does a PPAP approval cover later material or tooling changes?
Not automatically. Changes should follow the customer's notification, review and possible resubmission requirements before release.
Should a resin or plating supplier change be reported?
It may need notification and approval because material and sub-supplier changes can affect performance. Follow the customer's specific change-control rules.
Can validation be skipped when dimensions do not change?
Not automatically. Material, process or supplier changes can affect electrical, mechanical, sealing or environmental performance even when nominal dimensions stay the same.
Can the same connector family cover 12V, 24V and 48V?
Possibly, but only when voltage, current, spacing, temperature, environment, protection and customer requirements are satisfied for each application.
Is every 48V vehicle circuit treated as high voltage?
Classification and protection rules vary by customer and vehicle architecture. Follow the controlled project electrical and safety specification.
How close should the first harness clip be to a connector?
There is no universal distance. It depends on harness mass, flexibility, vibration, connector size, vehicle motion and the approved installation specification.
Can a cable bend immediately after a sealed connector?
Avoid routing that side-loads the wire seal or terminal. Use the approved minimum bend, straight length, support and cable-exit geometry for the assembly.
