Buyer takeaway
Clarify the connector requirement
Compare product and solution paths
Prepare RFQ details before quotation
Start with the real environment
Waterproof connector selection should begin with where the connector will be installed: engine bay, chassis, lighting, sensor, EV battery or exterior harness. Each location has different water, dust, vibration and temperature exposure.
Confirm IP rating and test condition
IP67 and IP68 are not only labels. The test condition, cable sealing, housing interface, wire diameter and assembly method must match the application.
Check terminal and seal together
A waterproof housing is not enough. The terminal, wire seal, cavity plug, latch and mating connector should be reviewed as one connector set.
Prepare RFQ information
Provide pin number, wire size, voltage, current, target IP rating, vehicle location, drawing or sample photo and expected quantity.
FAQ
Common questions
Common procurement and engineering questions related to this topic.
Is IP68 always required for automotive waterproof connectors?
No. IP67 may be suitable for many applications. IP68 should be reviewed with immersion condition, cable sealing and project test method.
What causes waterproof connector failure?
Common causes include wrong wire seal, poor terminal insertion, mismatched mating part, damaged latch, wrong cable diameter and incomplete assembly.
