Automotive connector FAQ
Answers for procurement and engineering teams reviewing connector selection, equivalent models, samples, drawings, waterproof ratings and technical RFQ requirements.
Need a project-specific answer?
Send application, drawing, target model or connector parameters for engineering review.
Submit RFQWhat information is needed for an automotive connector RFQ?
Provide application, vehicle system, connector type, pin number, voltage, current, IP rating, drawing or sample reference and estimated quantity.
Can you review equivalent models from TE, Molex, Aptiv or other brands?
Yes. Equivalent review should include part number, product photos, drawing, datasheet or sample so the connector structure and parameters can be checked.
Can you support connector housing, terminal and seal matching?
Yes. RFQ review can include housing, terminal type, seal, wire range, crimp requirement and application environment.
Can drawings, datasheets or 3D files be requested?
Yes. Technical files can be requested through the catalog or RFQ path. Some files should be controlled by project and model.
Are automotive connectors different from general connectors?
Yes. Automotive connectors are selected around vehicle environment, vibration, temperature, sealing, terminal retention and production requirements.
Should I always choose IP68?
Not always. The correct rating depends on application environment, test condition, cost, cable sealing and assembly process.
What should I include in an RFQ?
Include application, connector type, pin number, voltage, current, IP rating, quantity, target drawing and project stage when possible.
Can connector terminals be selected without the housing?
It is not recommended. The terminal should be checked with the connector housing, cavity structure, wire range and crimp process.
What terminal information should be included in an RFQ?
Include terminal size, wire range, current requirement, connector housing reference, material or plating requirement and sample quantity.
What information is most important for an EV battery connector RFQ?
Voltage, current, cable size, IP rating, temperature range, safety requirement, drawing or sample reference and project stage are the most important starting points.
Does every EV battery connector need HVIL?
Not every connector requires HVIL, but high-voltage safety circuit requirements should be reviewed early in the project.
Is IP68 always required for automotive waterproof connectors?
No. IP67 may be suitable for many applications. IP68 should be reviewed with immersion condition, cable sealing and project test method.
What causes waterproof connector failure?
Common causes include wrong wire seal, poor terminal insertion, mismatched mating part, damaged latch, wrong cable diameter and incomplete assembly.
Can I choose a connector by pin count only?
No. Pin count should be reviewed together with voltage, current, terminal, wire range, IP rating and application environment.
Which pin counts are common for automotive sensors?
2 pin, 3 pin, 4 pin and 6 pin connectors are common, but the exact choice depends on sensor function and environment.
Should terminals be included in a harness connector RFQ?
Yes. Housing and terminal should be reviewed together because crimp quality and terminal retention affect reliability.
What if I only have a connector photo?
A photo can start the review, but pin count, wire size, application and mating part information are also needed.
Is a cross reference connector guaranteed interchangeable?
No. Equivalent options should be confirmed by drawing, sample fit, electrical requirement and application testing.
Which brands are commonly cross-referenced?
Buyers often reference TE, Molex, Aptiv, Yazaki, Sumitomo, Amphenol and OEM part numbers.
Are HSD and LVDS connectors interchangeable?
No. They should be reviewed by signal, cable, module interface and application requirement.
What should I provide for HSD or LVDS connector RFQ?
Provide application, signal type, cable type, orientation, mating interface, reference model and quantity.
What is the first requirement for EV high voltage connector review?
Voltage platform, current and cable size should be clarified first, followed by safety, sealing and installation requirements.
Can high voltage connectors be ordered like standard low-voltage connectors?
No. High-voltage connector projects usually require engineering review before quotation and sample approval.
What matters most in supplier audit for automotive connectors?
Manufacturing proof, product data, quality control, testing, documentation and engineering response quality are key factors.
Should a supplier website show factory evidence?
Yes. Real equipment, product, testing and quality evidence helps buyers trust the supplier before sending RFQ.
Can all connector drawings be downloaded directly?
Not always. Some drawings and 3D files require model confirmation or project review before release.
What should I include when requesting connector drawings?
Include model, application, project stage, file type needed and whether a sample or quotation is also required.
Still not sure which connector fits?
Use the RFQ form or connector finder to turn your application into a clearer product selection path.
